Elton John little things pleased him when growing up!

Elton John insists his son Zachary won’t become a spoiled brat.

The Rocket Man singer who became a first time dad on Christmas Day last year recently opened up about his tough, working-class childhood and the days when a fridge was far more exciting than a pair of trendy trainers.

“I sound like Victor Meldrew, but I don’t know if kids get that sort of enjoyment out of things any more,” he said.

“I don’t think you can do because your parents worked so hard when money was scarce to buy you a bicycle, or your first record player.

“I don’t want to become Britain’s crustiest old man, but I don’t think you can possibly have the pleasure now of growing up like we did. A trip to the cinema was a treat. A trip up to London was unbelievably exciting. A trip anywhere. Going to Bertram Mills Circus in London they had a funfair indoors.

“Little things like that during the year were really special for you. Then when TV finally came in, that was special. Then records.

“Gradually we had our first fridge, our first Chinese meal. It sounds ridiculous, but it was wonderful.”

Elton recently described himself as a “modern woman”.

“As they say, I am now a modern woman. I’ve actually entered the 21st century,” he said.
