The FBI has released more than 100 pages linked to the death Notorious B.I.G.
Though the investigation closed in 2005, the Bureau has unveiled its records following repeated Freedom of Information Act requests.
The FBI launched a civil rights probe into the killing, according to the LA Times, spending eight years on the case.
Citizen investigators can now pore over the FBI’s heavily redacted file, which includes information on the “very rare” Gecko 9mm ammunition and its possible sources. Website The Smoking Gun has highlighted items found on Biggie after his death, including marijuana in a plastic bag, an asthma inhaler and three condoms, noted as “magnum” and “larger size”.
Earlier this year, CNN reported that the LAPD’s Notorious BIG investigation had been “reinvigorated” by fresh leads. It is reportedly working with the FBI and the LA County district attorney’s office on new information. Specifics of these developments have not been disclosed.
Notorious B.I.G. born Christopher Wallace and also known as Biggie Smalls was shot and killed in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997, and his second solo album, Life after Death, was released on March 26. It has sold more than 10 million copies.
Since his death, rumors have abounded regarding both the identity of Biggie’s killer and the motive behind the fatal shooting.
Some claim a rivalry between Wallace and slain rapper Tupac Shakur fueled the attack. Others accuse L.A. authorities of not trying hard enough to find the killer of a famous rapper, supposedly not deeming it important enough to warrant an extensive investigation.
