Paul Rudd used to make people laugh for attention.
In a recent interview, the actor discussed when he first realized his life mission was to be funny.
I moved around a lot when I was kid and I wanted to make friends,” he said. “My parents are both British, and being Jewish and growing in the Midwest, you have to adapt.
“My dad was hilarious and my mom, too, and I had a younger sister, so I knew that I needed to do something to take all the attention.
“Then for anything traumatic in my life, I would deal with those traumas through humor. But I was always drawn to comics and funny stuff. I liked watching comedies, comedians, things like that. I wasn’t tough or edgy in any kind of way, though I wanted to play football, but my mother told me that my bones were growing.”
Rudd recently revealed his dating don’ts!
The Hollywood actor who’s now happily married to his wife of seven years, Julie Yaeger says he and his friend went on a double date with their respective girlfriends and it turned out to be a disaster!
“A friend and I went on a double date with these two girls and it started off we were trying to impress the girls and make each other laugh,” he said. “And it started out innocently enough with my friend kicking his shoe 30 feet in the air as we’re walking down the street. And it really struck me as funny. So then I try to outdo him, I jumped on a mailbox or something, and each thing kept escalating. The girls didn’t laugh at any of this.
“Finally, I was driving, we were driving home (in my Jeep). And I thought it would be funny if, in the middle of a conversation, I jump out of the Jeep and run alongside, keep the conversation going as if it was normal. And I didn’t take into account that when you’re going slow in a car, it’s still really fast. I stepped on the car and fell so hard on the pavement, I ripped my jeans and cut up my hands and felt the tire whoosh past my head.
“And I looked up, and in a split second, the car was already 50 feet in front of me going into a tree. And they looked completely shell-shocked, and I felt so stupid and then just drove home in silence.
“And that was the only date I had with that girl.”
